A Northwest Arkansas teen and Startup Junkie client will appear on ABC’s Shark Tank in January.
Bentonville’s Sofia Overton, 14, is the founder of Wise Pocket Products, a unique line of clothing designed to make life easier for active kids by giving them more pockets.
Overton was selected earlier this year in a Shark Tank casting call at The Exchange in Bentonville. The episode will air on ABC on Jan. 12 at 8 p.m.
The story of Wise Pocket Products began when Overton was hanging out with her older cousin. She saw her cousin slide her cell phone down in her boot because she didn’t have pockets. She realized that she, too, didn’t have a pocket to stow away her cell phone. Why were shoes the only viable storage option for kids, she wondered.
Overton designed a sock for herself that featured a discrete but functional pocket at the top, just above the ankle. It worked as well as she had hoped. She continued to improve upon her design and also added pockets to a line of leggings.
With this, Wise Pocket Products was born.
Overton launched a crowd funding campaign in January 2018. She was able to reach her $10,000 goal in one month.
“I’m grateful to Startup Junkie for helping me to get to where I am today,” said Overton. “I made amazing connections and learned so much through everyone there. The pitch competitions helped me to have the startup I needed to launch my company.”
Wise Pocket’s sock line features gender-neutral pocket socks in various colors and designs. From cream-colored to black to the louder splatter-paint design, these socks blend functionality with fashion.
Be sure to tune in to Shark Tank on Jan. 12 to watch 14-year-old Sofi Overton pitch to the sharks.
