Quotes:

“…We go out whenever companies need a new headcount or are adding projects to their itinerary. We go out and help them find that staff. We do it differently than big companies. We do it more in a concierge service situation. We really want to be their partner.” Jordan Franklin, (2:29)

“I always wanted to help people. And, and as a young kid, helping people [meant working] as a doctor… And I didn’t really think about, oh, well, there’s multiple ways that you can help people. And so through recruiting, it really is another way of helping people. You don’t realize how much of a counselor you are.” Jordan Franklin, (6:09)

“…I’m not just selling your position, I’m selling what you actually expect out of this person.” Jordan Franklin, (8:56)

“…[Going to a job board is] just not how things are done now. So it’s got to change. It’s also not how Gen Z wants to be hired. Like you’re not going to go to a job board and go look for a job…You’re going to go find someone and you’re going to be like, ‘Hey, what you got out there?’” Jordan Franklin, (26:17)

“…Staffing has been around forever, right? Like, it’s cool. You can rethink it somewhat. But if you really want to get down to it, we’ve got to rethink how to get people and how to get them into positions.” Jordan Franklin, (29:36)

Getting People into the Right Positions with Stratice

In this episode of Startup Junkies, hosts Caleb Talley, Jeff Amerine, and Grace Gill talked with Jordan Franklin, the CEO at Stratice, a human capital management firm. Though she originally planned to attend medical school, Jordan instead spent time working at a staffing agency and worked her way up to the number one salesperson. Eventually, Jordan decided to do her own thing and started Stratice in 2015. Now, the team at Stratice shares success with their clients as they help fill necessary roles and help companies achieve their goals. Throughout the episode, Caleb, Jeff, Grace, and Jordan discussed how Stratice works, the current war on talent, and the future of Stratice and the new company they are starting, Gumption.

All about Jordan

After graduating a year early from Hendrix, Jordan Franklin took a job at a larger staffing agency that her dad helped to start. She started off on the administration team and eventually grew to become their number one salesperson, running their number one office in Alabama. Jordan fell in love with the work, especially sales, and started her own human capital management agency, Stratice, in 2015. Although she had planned initially to attend medical school, Jordan decided to pivot and pursue a career in human capital management. Though she initially felt guilty, Jordan believes in making a decision and going with it and not looking back or feeling bad for it. Jordan loves what she does and enjoys helping others along the way.

Stratice

Unlike some other agencies, Stratice aims to be proactive in the staffing process instead of reactive. They do this by operating like a concierge service, where they really get to know their clients and what they’re looking for before selecting people to fill the roles. Stratice helps to fill positions that will aid the company in meeting its future goals. Stratice acts as a liaison and offers direct-hire, contract hire, and contract-to-hire positions. Instead of posting positions, they actively seek talent by only going after passive candidates. They realize that getting the right person in the right position is not always about salary, but could instead be motivated by bonuses, work style, or work-life balance, so Stratice really has to get to know everyone involved before finding a fit for the role.

“…I’m not just selling your position, I’m selling what you actually expect out of this person.” Jordan Franklin, (8:56)

The Future of Stratice and Gumption

Stratice has audacious goals in mind for itself over the next three years. However, their most recent achievement is a separate company called Gumption which will be up and running in the next year. With Gumption, companies will have access to a different portal so that they can see and set up their own interviews. As well, someone could securely send resumes through Gumption, and companies could rate candidates, and that rating would go back to the recruiter and salesperson. Gumption will also offer many integrations, which will make the staffing process easier for everyone.
