The SBA’s PPP funding encourages small businesses to keep all current employees on payroll during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. This funding is part of more than $700 billion approved by Congress allocated to the CARES Act.
As of June 12th, SBA has approved more than $500 billion in loans and $100 billion still remains. Of that funding, 41,112 loans totaling approximately $3.2 billion have been distributed in Arkansas.
While Round 2 of Congressional Relief closes in just a few days, some small businesses may now qualify for funding for the first time. More lenient guidelines signed in by the President on June 18th to the Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act (PPPFA) allots small business owners 24 weeks to use the loan rather than limiting it to eight weeks. Additionally, only 60 percent of the loan must be used on payroll rather than the previous 75 percent to receive forgiveness. Employees’ criminal histories have been relaxed from a five year look-back period to one year.
Legislation has not approved for businesses to get a second wave of additional money who have already received a loan.
Grants disguised as federal loans are enticing enough for any small business owner or entrepreneur to want to do the money grab during a time of economic shut down, but dashing to the lenders office before understanding if a PPP loan is the correct decision could result in an even bigger deficit. Set up a meeting with your lender today to determine how a PPP loan may affect your business.
Small Businesses, self-employed individuals, independent contractors, sole proprietorships, veteran groups and tribal businesses with less than 500 employees as of February 15, 2020 may be eligible. Check out the official guidelines before June 30th https://www.sba.gov/funding-programs/loans/coronavirus-relief-options.
